‘Reality TV has turned fake’

He might be Indian reality TV’s first superstar, but singer Abhijeet Sawant wants to keep away from reality shows now. He tells TOI why.
‘Reality TV has turned fake’
Youve had women swooning over him and boys wanting to be in his shoes.
But star status notwithstanding, singer Abhijeet Sawant who became a celebrity overnight after he won a popular reality show, is a humble guy. We caught him in Jaipur recently, even as he performed in a high-turnout show. Its been wonderful interacting with the crowd. They are so spontaneous, smiles Abhijeet, sounding quite in love with the Pink City.
Indeed, he seemed to be loving every bit of his visit here. I absolutely love the chilly weather here. And of course I loved all the chatpata food I could lay my hands on, he explains.
The singer who sends women swooning every time he lips the song Mohabaatein Lutaunga...is set to steal more hearts with his film Lottery that hits the theaters in February 2009. I am playing the role of an accountant who works with a fashion magazine. It suited me because even that guy is shy and an introvert like me, he shares. Ask him how he feels about the public writing off singers who try their luck in acting, and he explains, Well, this is the era of multitasking. Music composers are turning into singers, actors are turning director...I was very scared when I accepted the film offer. I had all sorts of thoughts I might not be accepted by the viewers, it may not work the way I desire...but then its all about your dedication, hard work and leaving a mark.
Talking on how his film shoot went, Abhijeet adds, I was very nervous in the first few shots. Delivering dialogues in front of a crowd of 150 people is not easy. My acting skills were appreciated by some very senior people in the industry and that shot up my confidence levels, says Abhijeet.
Though he may have made himself comfortable on the big screen, he is not planning to take on television assignments any longer. Well, no more reality shows for me, please. They are not about exhibiting ones talents anymore. Its all turning so fake you have unnecessary controversies. You have to talk, walk and act in a particular way, only then you are accepted, says Abhijeet.
